Accessibility Statement for The H Collective

This is an accessibility statement from The H Collective.

Measures to support accessibility

The H Collective takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of The H Collective:

  • Include accessibility as part of our mission statement.

  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.

  • Provide continual accessibility training for our staff.

  • Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. The H Collective is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Additional accessibility considerations

Although our goal is WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance, we have also applied some Level AAA Success Criteria: Images of text are only used for decorative purposes. Re-authentication after a session expires does not cause loss of data.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of The H Collective , there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for The H Collective:

  1. Site navigation, dropdown menus, and interactive components: Some interactive elements may not be fully operable via keyboard alone or properly announced by screen readers because Squarespace's platform templates have limited customization for ARIA attributes and keyboard interaction patterns. We have implemented custom CSS for keyboard focus indicators and are working to improve navigation accessibility. Use the site search or contact us for help finding specific content.

  2. Page heading hierarchy: Heading levels may not follow a sequential logical order (e.g., H1 skipping to H3 or H4) because Squarespace 7.1 assigns heading levels based on text styling selections rather than semantic document structure, and does not enforce a logical heading hierarchy. We are manually adjusting heading levels through custom code where possible to improve document structure. Use your screen reader's navigation features to browse by landmarks or links as an alternative to heading navigation.

  3. Empty links, buttons, and container elements in the page structure: The page contains empty interactive elements and blank containers that are read by screen readers but contain no meaningful content or accessible labels because Squarespace's platform generates empty HTML elements as part of its template framework and layout engine that cannot be removed through the standard editor. We are implementing ARIA attributes and custom code to hide decorative empty elements from assistive technology and label functional ones. Skip past any blank or unlabelled elements encountered while navigating with assistive technology.

  4. Navigation links and linked content blocks: Adjacent links may point to the same destination, creating duplicate tab stops for keyboard and screen reader users because Squarespace wraps both images and their associated text in separate links to the same URL as part of its content block structure. We are using custom code to consolidate redundant links where possible. If you encounter duplicate links, the second link leads to the same destination and can be skipped.
